Senior Trade Lane Associate (Sr. TLA) 

SUMMARY:

As a Network Senior Trade Lane Associate, you will be an integral member of the team, a process expert, and a developing subject-matter-expert on a specific trade within your region. You will execute and oversee the end-to-end procurement, solution design, rate setting, bill auditing, and implementation cycles for your geography’s imports and exports. A Senior Trade Lane Associate will act as the right-hand person to a Trade Lane Manager, developing an expertise on the local market, growing the business in the region, and leading strategies to drive profitability. Additionally, you will ensure high quality and timely delivery of solutions, anticipate and proactively mitigate challenges, and take the lead on implementation of cross-functional projects to improve business performance.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Create, promote, and oversee the delivery of the best end-to-end solutions for Flexport customers 

  • Execute and oversee impeccable end-to-end procurement, solution design, rate setting, and implementation cycles for your geography
  • Acquire and maintain a deep understanding of best-in-class market offerings and customer requirements for your geography
  • Leveraging local market knowledge, think outside-the-box to create creative procurement & pricing solutions
  • Procure rates for non-routine customer requests within our network of vendors (carriers & partners) and ensure they are clearly recorded and available in cost and sell databases (ie Procurement Database, Marketplace)
  • Partner with Client Solutions Teams to understand unique customer requirements, collaborate on how to fulfill them, and execute the strategy
  • Liaise with Account Solutions to design solutions and recommend pricing strategies

Partner with Client Solutions to resolve Air/OCS issues, requests, or questions and provide enablement and support for sales

  • Ensure resolution of all escalations involving your geography raised by Client Solution Teams as quickly as possible, with an eye for mitigating future escalations of the same nature; exercise good judgment on when to further escalate
  • Manage geographic-specific group emails, Slacks, and offer support wherever possible
  • Support the Trade Lane Manager in providing market insights and empowering Client Solutions to sell out of your geography; help drive the go-to-market commercial strategy
  • Be vigilant of market conditions and provide monthly and quarterly updates to Demand as needed

Ensure high quality execution of day-to-day tasks and adherence to SLAs for the trade

  • Continually monitor and proactively make plans to improve all internal performance metrics, such as quote response time, cost/sell database population and integrity, bill audits, dispute execution for the specific trade
  • Report opportunities and strategies for improvement to TLSM; lead and implement those initiatives

Identify and lead initiatives to increase growth and profitability for the region

  • Propose strategies to help steer trade lane progress with the manager
  • Support the Trade Lane Manager in executing the strategies to drive volume and net revenue growth targets for the region
  • Consult with Client Solutions to price fairly and competitively and avoid revenue leakage/missed charges
  • Proactively follow-up on sizable lost pricing requests and new opportunities
  • Make independent decisions on pricing and solution design for small & mid-sized opportunities

Develop, maintain, and strengthen external vendor relationships

  • Interface with external vendors for sizable or complex opportunities regarding rate procurement, audits, or strategy
  • Set up reporting structures to measure performance of vendors and subcontractor (ie operational performance, procurement strength, etc)
  • Communicate and implement performance improvement initiatives within the team to improve quality and meet targets
  • Assist the Trade Lane Manager in developing and maintaining excellent relationships with external vendors, ensuring that Flexport is a quality partners for the airlines and that airlines are delivering the services purchased by Flexport
  • Set up reporting to measure performance of our partners (operational performance, procurement strength, etc…)
  • Develop local market knowledge and maintain a pulse on the market regarding costs, capacity, and rate trends

Identify areas for process improvements and contribute to future automation designs; lead strategic projects to drive the business forward

  • Lead transformation projects in collaboration with other departments and consistently deliver on time with targets achieved
  • Demonstrate full mastery all Flexport processes, internal tools, and databases for maintaining buy and sell rates
  • Contribute meaningfully to the design and development of new tools to automate workflows
  • Constantly drive improvements to our service and rate offerings vs. competitors
  • Embody a “can-do” attitude at all times

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • BA/BS and 3-6 year(s) of related work experience
  • Knowledge of product and technology within the industry
  • Experience with regards to imports and/or exports from a sales, operational or procurement perspective. 
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships and partnerships with vendors
  • Analytical skills and metric / data based approach to solving problems
  • Strong analytical background and knowledge of analytical tools (Excel, etc)
  • Strategic vision and ground floor execution
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
